In this blog post, we will explore 7 eco resolutions for the new year. Let’s get started!

As we step into 2024, it’s the perfect time to reflect on our habits and make positive changes for a more sustainable future. One area where we can make a difference is in our approach to toys. By embracing eco-friendly practices, we can reduce waste, promote responsible consumption, and instill a sense of environmental consciousness in the younger generation.

1 / Embrace Secondhand Toys

Instead of always buying new toys, consider purchasing pre-loved toys from thrift stores, online marketplaces, or participating in toy swaps. This not only reduces waste but also gives toys a second life, promoting a circular economy and reducing the demand for new production. I personally love this resolution as I love to shop and pay less for more.

2 / Opt for Sustainable Materials

When buying new toys, prioritize those made from sustainable materials such as wood, bamboo, paper, organic cotton, or recycled plastic. These materials are typically safer for children, more durable, and have a lower environmental impact compared to conventional plastic toys.

3 / Support Ethical Toy Brands

Research and support toy brands that prioritize ethical manufacturing practices, fair trade, multi-usable designs like the Cubo Sticky Schedules, and environmental responsibility. Look for reputable eco-designed products recognized internationally such as the Green Product Awards where our very own Cubo Montessori Box has been nominated.

4 / Choose Battery-Free Toys

Battery-powered toys contribute to electronic waste, as batteries are often discarded improperly. Instead, opt for toys that encourage imaginative play and require manual operation. These toys not only stimulate creativity but also reduce our reliance on batteries and their associated environmental impact. This I will personally add this year as we consume this a lot lately.

5 / Encourage DIY and Repurposing

Encourage your child’s creativity by engaging in do-it-yourself (DIY) projects and repurposing existing materials to create new toys. This promotes resourcefulness and teaches children the value of reusing and recycling items, fostering a sense of environmental responsibility.

6 / Minimize Packaging Waste

Consider the packaging when purchasing toys. Choose products with minimal packaging or packaging made from recyclable materials. Additionally, encourage your child to keep the toy packaging for future storage or repurposing purposes.

7 / Educate and Inspire

Teach your children about the importance of eco-toy friendliness and the impact their choices can have on the environment. Engage in conversations about sustainability, recycling, and the responsible use of resources. By instilling these values at a young age, you can help shape a future generation of environmentally conscious individuals.

This year, let’s make a commitment to be more eco-toy friendly. By embracing secondhand toys, opting for sustainable materials, supporting ethical brands, choosing battery-free options, encouraging DIY projects, minimizing packaging waste, and educating our children, we can make a significant positive impact on the environment. Remember, small changes in our toy choices can lead to a more sustainable future for our children and the planet. Let’s make this year a year of eco-consciousness and responsible play!
